Questions
Why do your rates show a date?
Because processor pricing changes and most calculators that rank for this never say when their numbers were last checked. Every rate here carries the page it was read from and the date it was read. If you are making a decision on it, follow the link and confirm the figure has not moved since.
Why is the annual figure the one that matters?
Because per sale the gap between processors is usually cents, which is why almost nobody switches. Multiply it by a year of transactions and the same gap is often a month of someone’s rent. The decision only looks worth making at the annual scale.
What is the international card surcharge?
Most processors charge more when the customer’s card was issued in another country. It is easy to miss because it is not in the headline price, and it surprises anyone who starts selling abroad. Choose your customers’ cards in step 3 to see it.
Is the cheapest processor always the right one?
No. Fees are one input. A processor that fits how you actually get paid, that pays out on a schedule you can live with, and that your customers already trust can easily be worth a slightly higher rate. Use this to know the size of the trade rather than to make the decision for you.
