How Much to Charge for Trash Bin Cleaning

Five US bin cleaning companies publish their prices. Two bins cleaned every four weeks cost $20 to $36.99 a visit; a single one-time clean costs $50 to $97. The gap between those two numbers is the whole pricing strategy of the trade.

US trash bin cleaning companies charge $20 to $36.99 a visit to clean two bins every four weeks, going by the five that publish their prices. A one-time clean of the same two bins costs $50 to $97. Quarterly plans sit in between, at $30 to $67.99 a visit. Each extra bin adds $2.33 to $9 on a recurring plan.

The pattern is the same at every company: the more often you come, the less each visit costs, and the one-time clean is priced to push the customer onto a plan.

How much does trash bin cleaning cost per visit?

For two bins on a plan, published prices run from $20 to $36.99 a visit every four weeks. It's Bin Cleaned in Dallas–Fort Worth charges $20 a month for two bins; Lemon Fresh Bins near Austin charges $36.99 a service. Phoenix's Bubble Binz, Houston's Space City Sanitizers and Wisconsin's Tidy Trash Bins sit between.

Worked out for the same two-bin household, every four weeks: It's Bin Cleaned $20, Bubble Binz $26.99 ($19.99 plus $7 for the second bin), Space City $27, Tidy Trash Bins $30, Lemon Fresh Bins $36.99.

How much does a one-time bin cleaning cost?

A one-time clean of two bins costs $50 to $97 at the five companies: Tidy Trash Bins $50, It's Bin Cleaned $65 ($55 plus $10 for the second bin), Bubble Binz from $83.99, Lemon Fresh Bins $89.99 and Space City Sanitizers $97. That is two to three times the per-visit price of a plan.

Bubble Binz says why in three words: its one-time clean is labelled "Deep reset only." A bin that has gone months without cleaning takes longer than one cleaned every four weeks, and a one-off visit gets none of the route efficiency of a regular stop.

The second reason is commercial. A high one-time price makes the plan look like the obvious choice. Tidy Trash Bins goes further and asks for a "3 cleaning minimum" on every regular plan.

How much should you charge for monthly bin cleaning?

Between $20 and $37 a visit for two bins, if you price inside the published range. The middle of that range, around $27 to $30, is where three of the five companies sit: Bubble Binz at $26.99 for two bins, Space City at $27 and Tidy Trash Bins at $30.

The difference between "monthly" and "every 4 weeks" matters more than it looks. Thirteen four-week visits fit in a year, not twelve. It's Bin Cleaned cleans every four weeks but bills "$20.00 Every Month," so the customer pays 12 times for 13 visits. Lemon Fresh Bins charges per service, so its customer pays 13 times.

Here is what one round of a route brings in, at the published two-bin prices, if 40 homes are on the plan:

  • At $20 a visit: 40 × $20 = $800 a round.
  • At $27 a visit: 40 × $27 = $1,080 a round.
  • At $36.99 a visit: 40 × $36.99 = $1,479.60 a round.

Forty homes is our working figure, not a published one. The point of the arithmetic is the spread: the same route earns almost twice as much at the top of the range as at the bottom, for the same water and the same driving.

How much do extra bins add to the price?

On recurring plans, each extra bin adds $2.33 to $9 at the companies that show it: It's Bin Cleaned $5 every four weeks and $2.33 a month on its 12-week plan, Tidy Trash Bins $5, Bubble Binz $7 to $9. On one-time cleans the extra bin costs more, $10 at It's Bin Cleaned and $24.99 at Bubble Binz.

The low price is logical. The truck, the drive and the setup are already paid for by the first bin; the second takes a few minutes. Bubble Binz says cleaning "takes 3–5 minutes per bin."

That makes the extra bin the easiest upsell in the trade. Most houses have a recycling bin next to the rubbish bin, and offering both at a small extra charge raises the price of a stop without adding a stop.

How much should a new bin cleaning business charge?

Inside the published $20 to $37 range for two bins every four weeks, with a one-time price at two to three times that. The companies that publish prices all keep that ratio, and it is what turns a one-off customer into a subscriber.

The mistake to avoid is starting at the floor. It's Bin Cleaned's $20 is billed monthly for every-four-week visits; copying the headline number without the billing structure loses one visit's revenue a year per customer. Setting a first price without a track record is covered in how to price a service with no track record.

The other decision is the minimum. Tidy Trash Bins requires three cleanings on every regular plan, with payment "processed after each cleaning." A rule like that protects you from the customer who signs up for a cheap plan price, gets the hardest clean, and leaves.

The honest hard part

The prices are the easy part to copy. The hard part is that each company serves one metro, and the right price for your town depends on how dense your route is and what your water disposal costs.

The second hard part is the gap between "monthly" and "every four weeks." Two companies with the same headline price can earn different amounts a year from the same customer, depending on which one they mean.

The third is that most bin cleaning companies do not publish prices at all. Several we checked ask for a ZIP code or a call first. Treat these five as the published part of the US market, checked on one day.
